Law Enforcement Rifle & Pistol Performance Course
This law-enforcement-only course provides officers with a practical, performance-driven approach to rifle and pistol employment. The focus is on developing repeatable shooting processes that can be trained, measured, and applied across realistic law-enforcement environments.
Rather than focusing solely on static marksmanship, officers will work through shooting problems involving distance, movement, positional shooting, barricades, weapon transitions, equipment integration, and realistic performance demands.
Equipment & Capability Integration
The course begins with an evaluation and discussion of the equipment currently utilized by the department.
Instruction will address weapon-mounted accessories and aiming systems, including their capabilities, limitations, and practical employment. Officers and command staff will receive an understanding of not only how specific equipment is used, but why certain specifications and capabilities may be recommended based on operational requirements.
Equipment considerations will continue throughout the course, including:
- Weapon configuration and setup
- Aiming systems and weapon-mounted equipment
- Helmet fit, stability, and integration
- Equipment placement and accessibility
- How equipment configuration affects shooting performance, mobility, and consistency
Rifle Performance
Live-fire rifle training will incorporate engagements from approximately 7 to 100 meters, progressively increasing the demands placed on the officer.
Training will include:
- Rifle engagements from approximately 7–25 yards
- Controlled pairs and rapid follow-up engagements
- Rifle-to-pistol transitions
- Shooting while moving
- Movement and positional transitions
- Sprinting and shooting under elevated physical demand
- Movement to and utilization of barricades
- Establishing effective firing positions behind available cover
- Target engagements extending to approximately 100 yards
- Building stable, repeatable shooting positions around cover
- Weapon manipulation while maintaining mobility
- Understanding points of contact, body position, and weapon stability
Officers will learn to establish effective shooting positions quickly while maintaining the ability to move, manipulate their weapon, and adapt to changing environments.
Pistol Performance
Pistol instruction will focus on maintaining consistent visual and shooting performance under realistic conditions.
Training will incorporate:
- Practical pistol marksmanship
- Visual processing and target-focused shooting
- Passive aiming techniques
- Iron-sight employment
- White-light integration
- Shooting from unconventional or compromised positions
- Maintaining consistency during movement and changing conditions
Performance Under Demand
Throughout the course, officers will be required to apply their shooting fundamentals while introducing additional physical and environmental demands.
The objective is to develop an officer who can maintain an effective shooting process while moving, changing positions, utilizing cover, managing equipment, and making adjustments based on the problem presented.
Course Objective
The overall objective of this course is to provide officers with a practical, measurable, and repeatable shooting curriculum that combines:
Marksmanship • Movement • Positional Shooting • Weapon Manipulation • Equipment Integration • Physical Performance
Officers will leave with techniques and training processes that can continue to be practiced individually and incorporated into departmental firearms training.
The course is designed around one principle: developing shooting performance that remains consistent when the environment, equipment, distance, and physical demands begin to change.
