3-DAY SUT/MOUT

OVERVIEW:

This 3-day course provides students with an understanding of Small Unit Tactics (SUT) in low/non-permissive environments and the core principles of Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT). The course includes patrolling principles, planning and preparing for operations, actions on objective, and actions upon contact. Students will also learn to effectively plan and coordinate forces for raids on large structures. The course will establish and bolster students' confidence and competence in SUT, culminating in a student-led operation that serves as a check-on-learning.

Course Objectives and Goals:

SUT (Small Unit Tactics): As taught in the regular KDS SUT course, you will achieve proficiency in:

  • The Principles of Patrolling: Understand and apply fundamental patrolling techniques.
  • Formation Composition: Learn the structure and roles within various formation types.
  • Maneuvering and Patrolling Techniques: Master tactical movement and patrolling strategies.
  • Sustainment: Gain knowledge on maintaining unit readiness and resource management.
  • Land Navigation and Route Planning: Develop skills in navigating and planning operational routes.
  • Operations Planning: Learn to effectively plan and execute tactical operations.
  • Crossing/Bypassing Linear and Open Danger Areas: Safely navigate and manage open and linear threats.
  • Fire/Maneuver Tactics: Implement coordinated fire and movement techniques.
  • Communications and Contingency Plans: Establish robust communication strategies and contingency planning.
  • Basic Reconnaissance: Conduct fundamental reconnaissance missions.
  • Security Postures: Establish and maintain effective security measures.

MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain): In addition to the general SUT objectives, you will be proficient in:

  • MOUT Principles: Understand the foundational concepts of urban combat operations.
  • The Key Phases of a Raid: Plan and execute raids in urban environments.
  • Establishing Blocking Positions: Implement positions to prevent enemy movement.
  • Establishing Inner/Outer Cordon: Set up secure perimeters for operational areas.
  • Effective Clearing Strategies: Execute strategies for clearing structures and areas.
  • Entry-level Sensitive Site Exploitation: Perform initial site exploitation tasks.
  • Infil/Exfil Considerations: Plan and conduct infiltration and exfiltration operations.

Goals:

  • To provide students with a comprehensive understanding of SUT and MOUT.
  • To develop confidence and competence in tactical operations.
  • To ensure students can plan, coordinate, and execute raids and other tactical missions.
  • To culminate in a student-led operation that serves as a practical test of learned skills.

Small Unit Tactics Packing List - 3 Days - This is a bare minimum we recommend on brining, you can ask questions on other gear you wish to bring that might aid you and your team in success.


Weapon:

  • Primary weapon system with magazines (No Ammo)
  • Secondary weapon system with magazines (No Ammo)
  • Sling
  • Batteries for lights, optics, lasers
  • Night vision (recommended, rental available)
  • Thermals (optional)

Gear:

  • Flashlight with red and white light (with batteries)
  • Hygiene gear (including sunblock and Chapstick)
  • Black ink pens
  • Highlighter
  • Map pens
  • Alcohol pens
  • Write in the rain note-taking gear and a regular notebook for class notes
  • Chest rig loadout
  • Plate carrier
  • Knife
  • GPS (recommended, not required)
  • Extra top and bottoms for changing as needed
  • Extra socks (minimum 4 pairs)
  • Cold weather gear (seasonal)
  • Rain jacket or pants (recommended, not required)
  • Main pack
  • Day pack
  • Poncho / Sleeping system
  • Tarp (Green, Brown, Camo - NO BRIGHT COLORS)
  • IFAK
  • 3 water sources (Camelbacks, Nalgene bottles, canteens)

  • DOS (Day of Supply) chow for 3 days

Body:

  • Long sleeve shirt, combat tops, or field tops
  • Pants (hiking, field, or combat style)

Additional Notes:

  • This list is designed for a 3-day Small Unit Tactics course.
  • Ensure all gear is properly maintained and packed before the start of the course.
  • Prepare for varying weather conditions and potential changes in mission requirements.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for bringing their own food and water to the course. While we will have water available on site, please ensure you have adequate provisions to stay nourished and hydrated throughout the training.

Refund Policy

Our refund policy is structured as follows, based on the timing of cancellation:

  • Full Refund: A full refund will be issued if the cancellation request is received more than 14 days before the start of the course.

  • Partial Refund: A partial refund of 50% of the course fee will be issued if the cancellation request is received between 7 to 14 days before the start of the course.

  • No Refund: No refund will be issued if the cancellation request is received less than 7 days before the start of the course or if the participant does not show up for the course.

Please note:

  • Refunds will be processed to the original payment method.
  • All refund requests must be made in writing via email to our enrollment team.
  • Refunds may take up to 14 days to process.
  • In cases where the course is canceled by us due to unforeseen circumstances or failure to meet the minimum enrollment requirement, a full refund will be issued automatically.
